Meet the Winners of the Federal Virtual Worlds Challenge [VIDEO]

Dr. Curtis Conkey is the Principle Investigator at the Joint Training Integration & Evaluation Center (JTIEC) in Orlando, Florida. He specializes in advanced training technologies for the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division, US Navy.

One of the highlights at GameTech2010 was the Federal Virtual Worlds Challenge. Conceived by Ms. Tami Griffith at US Army’s Research Development and Engineering Command’s Smith Simulation Training & Technology Center, the challenge’s purpose was to invite the creativity of virtual world developers to solve real world training problems – problems that often dovetail with aspects of day to day military life.

The response was overwhelming with entries pouring in from diverse fields such as firefighting, power generation, medical triage, and border patrol. The diversity of entries was impressive, but the excitement of the entrants was more amazing. Given the opportunity to show how virtual worlds could positively impact training, this group jumped at the opportunity and were in turn overwhelmed with the awards they received.
